ARCTIC PRODUCTIONS – Dave Lonergan
Qld based photographer and cinematographer – background in remote locations, specializing in the Arctic regions in landscape cinematography and photography including drone footage. Encompassing previous work in Iceland and Greenland, producing footage for Greenland Tourism, the challenge of filming in -10 to -20 degrees celsius only makes the work much more interesting. I enjoy the cold climate and the extreme remoteness of the Arctic, often whatever you capture on film is simply breathtaking due to location alone. One of the best experiences was trying to shoot on a mountainside in Central Iceland only to be engulfed by a 150km/h snow and wind storm and hunkering down under a rocky outcrop and strapping my Canon C200 Cinematography camera to my body so as not to lose it . Also filming polar bears 150km off the coast of Russia and turning back to see our helicopter sinking through the pack ice into the sea , sprinting back to the chopper with my pilot, my heart racing at a 180 beats per minute, another twenty seconds and I was to be polar bear lunch of the day.
You can’t buy these experiences, but you can actively live and willingly embrace what you have been thrown into. I have worked abroad, all across this amazing planet, the lure of the Arctic region has burrowed under my skin and draws me back endlessly.
With our more recent COVID induced life my travel plans abroad are all on hold a Greenland Tourism sponsored documentary I was to film of a dog sled race across the Greenland interior icecap was put on hold and then cancelled after many attempted re-routings of flights out of Australia.
Recently in Australia I have produced a couple of local Gold Coast promotional type clips published on YouTube, basically just to support our town and to keep my skill levels up. These are on YouTube – search ‘Gold Coast with dave lonergan’.
Also overseas more recent clips are ‘ Iceland with dave lonergan’ & ‘Greenland with dave lonergan’. Please subscribe.
I have photographed a lot of Gold Coast focussing on Main Beach and I also print and frame my own work, some of which is displayed at the Southport Surf Life Saving Club (upstairs) and a few photos are displayed at Hard Coffee cafe in Tedder Ave. Recently I have been commissioned to produce 30 X A2 sized printed and framed Main Beach & Gold Coast photographs of which most will be recent photos and some historical prints, these are for permanent display in a Main Beach apartment complex.
I am about to commence a lengthy documentary style film, interviewing prominent locals and discussing the rapidly changing face of Main Beach and surrounds. We should all be aware of the large number of high rise apartment buildings proposed for approval, already approved and under construction. These may well have a negative impact on the amenity of this beautiful suburb and on the Main Beach lifestyle as developments proceed right through the Gold Coast. I plan to film and interview a selection of local people to get a broad base of opinions on how this area is about to be very much transformed and whether it is a proper transformation for all or just a profitable transformation for the few. I have been based on the Gold Coast for over 30 years and seen many changes but being relatively new to the Main Beach area I can look at this suburb with fresh eyes and appreciate its beauty.
Fundamentally, my interest is in documentary style, informative short films as well as photography. The process of researching a subject and questioning what is transpiring captivates my interest. As well as capturing people and our ever changing living environment and our developing cities, I am never bored with what seems to either present itself in front of me or I hunt down for myself.
Arctic Film Productions Pty Ltd is an Australian Company, based on producing cinematography clips and stills and documentary style video presentations that highlight, examine and question a subject.

Great story about Dave Lonergon, it is amazing what talented and interesting people are calling Main Beach home.
Look forward to following Dave’s activity and maybe even meeting up some time.
Seem not unlikely as a resident of Main Beach.
