Idealism, Self-Sufficiency, and sustainability
Now, that’s a mouthful of reality to swallow, don’t you think?
Building a Village in the online setting is a lot like an architect drafting out a new home design on a computer CAD program, with the main exception being that there is no CAD program for designing a villager community.
Continuing on with the architect analogy, architects do these designs over and over becoming very experienced and skilled at their craft, they also get to see the home or building constructed and a very tangible outcome in which to measure their effort.
Why bother?
So back to building a “Self-Sufficient and Sustainable” Villager Community here in Main Beach.
Since I began with this crazy “Alice in Wonderland” ideal on the back of the GFC ruins in 2012, it has evolved to the point where it isn’t so crazy after all, it does seem that the future of the community is indeed a back to the future event – embracing the best of our past within the best of our new and evolving it into the direction that we the grassroots villager community decide – yes a bottom-up responsibility that compliments the efforts of the wider community and the City of Gold Coast. But who has the time and how would we achieve this?
We as in Destination Main Beach have leaned into this task since 2012-13, our only skill at that time was a vision, a ton of willingness and aspirations that would keep the fires burning and the effort relevant until we created something meaningful, something that the people of Main Beach would embrace as valuable to their lifestyle and business outcomes. People would then consider joining the warm friendly idealism of a villager community – a shared and collective lifestyle value that would give birth to new visions and aspirations – I believe we crossed this line sometime during our Covid challenge.
This is all very nice Steve, but How?
To ensure our lifestyle today & that it moves forward into the future as we expect, there are very basic foundations to be put in place. We need to become a self-sufficient village and create revenue streams that ensure the sustainability of this endeavor.
So the first step has been made…
The inaugural Main Beach Sunrise Calendar: A collaboration of talent, passion, and business that pulls together and supports an obvious asset of the Main Beach lifestyle. It’s been a big effort – well, at least bigger than I expected to create a superb Gift Quality Calendar that aligns expectations – something that we can all share and boast about with pride. The profits from the calendar sales will go directly through ensuring a pre-funded Main Beach Spring Flower Festival that has a start-up cost of a minimum of $100k annually, yes you are right to think that selling a few calendars will be no match for this, but I can assure you it will be a great start if we as a Village embrace calendar sales.
That’s a wrap . . .but!
