Lynne Goddard

Lynne takes no prisoners when it comes to pitching in and contributing to the Village Vibe. She really does add that special x-factor into our lifestyle mix.
Lynne’s favourite thing about Main Beach is the “Friendships” – of which she certainly has many.

A little bit about Lynne

Lynne turned 21 in San Francisco where she was Private Secretary to the South Korean Consul General – a career she loved with very hours, chauffeured to and from the Consulate and meeting so many interesting people.  People and travel have been a large part of her – but that’s another story!

Another large part of Lynne’s career background has been creating and producing unique events.

As Lynne says: “I don’t copy – I create – and move with the times.  Every event is different, interesting and positive. They take many, many hours to create and bring together. Many of my events are subsequently copied but that’s okay.  My reward is seeing people benefit and enjoying them.  I’ve created events in New Zealand for the NZ Wool Board, The NZ Retailers Federation and others”.

Lynne was privileged to be the first NZ woman invited by P&O to be a guest lecturer on their beautiful cruise ships (cruising was only just beginning), running shows promoting New Zealand and Australian fashion, wine and cheese.

She says: “The American passengers on one cruise (the Love Boat) were not aware of the quality of our fashion let alone that we produced wine! I subsequently promoted crushing all over New Zealand for New Zealand’s largest travel agency.  I was flown to see cruise ships for P&O that may appeal to “southern” passengers as cruising – and other cruise lines – were beginning to join in this exciting form of travel. P&O had the market share at that time. Their ships had first and second class, and cruising was very elegant – women would take a trunk load of clothes, a different outfit for each night of their cruise. Things are far more relaxed today, thank heaven”.

It has been a passion of Lynne’s all her life to promote and raise money for good causes.  In a little country town in New Zealand called Te Awamutu, they wanted to have a rose garden.  After much promotion involving the community and creating events, Te Awamutu is today called New Zealand’s “Rose Town”.

After being asked by Gitaway (we have Getaway in Australia) to bring the New Zealand media, the families and supporters of the New Zealand athletes to the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Lynne and her Australia born husband Bill decided to come and live here. They ‘fell in love’ with the Gold Coast.

Lynne and her grandson Tommy

Lynne explains: “It was fabulous, I could go anywhere, no one recognised you, you can wear casual things and no one took any notice. However a friend asked me to meet with the Manager of the Intercontinental at Sanctuary Cove and pull together the village in an event at the hotel.  It was a success, raising money for Cancer, so we did 3 more each year!”.

Much has happened since.  Lynne’s home is Main Beach, and events are run now in Main Beach for our community and for everyone living on the Gold Coast, their visitors, and inter and intra state visitors to come and enjoy. Lynne finds it a pleasure to encourage everyone to come and see how beautiful Main Beach is and how lucky we are to live here.

And a few words from husband Bill …

“Lynne is a remarkable Woman, I should know having lived with her for nearly 40 years.
We met on the Canberra coming out of Sydney she had her two children with her Carolyn and Andrew and was given a cruise by P&O for all the entertaining she had done for them over the years on their ships. She virtually lives and breathes all her waking hours on her projects and only wants to give pleasure to others. Now especially the Main Beach Community.  She has spent more than 12 hours a day over several months recently on this promotion MAGIC OF MUSIC to get it to finality.  Organising over 80 Entertainers and Volunteers canvassing every restaurant and business along Tedder Avenue keeping them advised as to what is happening.”  As well as managing to collect many donated items and vouchers for the raffle which was the only income to cover all the costs involved in a programme such as this.  Entertainers and Volunteers joined together to make this event such a great success.”

A little bit about Showcase It Inc

Showcase It Inc. is a not-for-profit association which promotes local emerging artists empowering belief in their abilities, confidence, self worth and self esteem. They are also getting the message out about the benefits music and the arts play as a therapeutic aid in the treatment of neurological disorders. There is also benefits gained through the application of music in creative aging, childhood development and community wellness.

Lynne is very aware that she cannot present these events without the help of her small team, and the many volunteers who help prior to, and on the day. She thanks everyone involved especially Showcase It Inc’s Treasurer Rod Clementson, Secretary Pat Rotherham, Stylist Di Challinor and her team, Lydia Astill and Lachlan Stewart (Lynne’s grandson) for the social media posts they create, plus David Cejad from Studio Quatro who keeps showcaseitinc.com.au up to date and looking so fabulous. She says there are many more individuals she would like to thank including all the raffle ticket sellers, the security guys, Jason from Soundright, Matt from Fast Proof Press, and if she keeps going she is going to miss someone and that is not her intent – everyone who helps and supports is valued and invaluable.

Should anyone have the contacts to suggest a major sponsor for these events please get in touch with Lynne, as Showcase It Inc. is about to look for that company who could benefit from and get behind these very worthwhile events.

Showcase It’s next event will be “Music at Sunset” on Saturday 7th October, on the lawn at the Seaway Kiosk, at the Spit.  Last year’s event sold out extremely quickly so keep an eye out for upcoming notifications.
