Matthew The Villager

Matthew is a local Main Beach Villager and manages the family business Fast Proof Press that his Dad Bob Whitton established way back in 1979.

Matt’s story from a Villager perspective fits straight down the middle of our popular “Meet the Locals” segment and the profiles we do on our Villagers in Business. Both Matthew himself and Fast Proof Press set high benchmarks when we look to highlight Villagers and/or Villagers in Business here in Main Beach.

Matthew the Family Man

Matt has married to Di for 16 years and they have 4 children; Indiana 15, Tannah 14, Jaggar 12, & Archer 9, whoops almost forgot the family pooch – 3 year old cavoodle – Raffety. WOW Matt you certainly have done your bit toward populating the Village!!!!  Matt and Di have lived in Main Beach since 1998.

Just by chance, Claire wrote a story a few months back about some community minded kids who took on the task of repairing – or should I say recreating an Artscaped wall created by Left Bank Gallery. The wall had been graffitied earlier this year. As it turns out the re-creation was carried out by Matthews children – read the article here “Local Kids Clean Up Spoiled Artwork“.

Matthew the Village Printer

Fast Proof Press is the printer behind our inaugural Main Beach Sunrise Calendar, and it would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank Matt for his guidance through the process of developing and producing such a high-quality outcome.

Our experience in producing this calendar really does prove up the point of engaging people and businesses of expertise. I would also underline the “Fast” part of their name as we needed this “Gift Quality Calendar” to be ready in time for Christmas and the New Year. The result is a Main Beach Experience that we can all be proud to gift to our family, friends, and colleagues. All the profits from Calendar sales go directly to funding the 2022 Main Beach Spring Flower Festival

Fast Proof Press

Matt manages Fast Proof Press with his brother Daniel. I first became aware of Matthew and Daniel when the Bulletin ran a feature on their expanding business which highlighted their significant investment of $500,000 in a state-of-the-art stitching machine ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

The business itself has an artisanal approach to its craft which understates the size of the business as a commercial printer. Fast Proof Press has a team of over 50 staff, and the hunger to produce exceptional results.

Fast Proof Press is one of the largest offset printer operations in Queensland housed alongside state-of-the-art printing presses – with both digital and web capabilities.

To wrap it up

I know that in the scheme of things that the Main Beach Sunrise Calendar is only a small contract for Fast Proof Press, but they certainly delivered on their advertised promises. As an aside, I never let on to Matt that I was going to feature him this month (November 2021). Matthew I really do have to thank you for your complete and professional support in helping us create such a stunning outcome.

When I set out to create an article for Destination Main Beach and the Villager, I have one simple and overarching focus and that is to pull all the good stuff to the centre – it’s such an important foundational building block that supports the integrity of a true grassroots up expression of who we are here in Main Beach.

Matthew Whitton and his business Fast Proof Press are truly high-quality “Good Stuff” a real asset to our village and Villager culture.
