What would Bernard say? he is a fan of working objectively with change, and he would encourage you to be proactive and accountable to and with your vote
Main Beach, Gold Coast, Queensland Australia:

If Bernard lived here in the Village of Main Beach I think this is how he would look today
The Little Village that Roars: If Bernard Salt Was Here
If I had the opportunity to talk with him and seek some succinct advice, then I think he would say the following:
“Embrace the vibrancy and opportunities brought by change, while diligently preserving the unique character and villager community spirit that define Main Beach’s essence.”
And those words go to the heart of the opportunity we have here in the Village of Main Beach, ever present in the hearts of the villagers who build this village. Through time and tide, the collective values that ensure our villager’s lifestyle is shared forward from one generation to another. The collective values evolve to ensure they align with the past’s intentions and today’s demands. The Village and Villager lifestyle is the intent, and the integrity of rises up from the villagers who build the village, a place where everyone knows your name and people pitch in and pick up the responsibility that goes with such aspirations.
“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so“: A quote from “Hamlet” “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”: A re-invigorated quote from Teddy Roosevelt.
Grant us Villagers the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.: the Villager version of Dr Reinhold Niebuhr serenity prayer.
Main Beach is on the move, Main Beach is exploding or it is simply transforming.
The apartment boom is reshaping skylines and bringing diversity and vibrancy as new residents breathe life into every corner. Yet, the village’s spirit endures, its charm undiminished by progress. It’s a delicate balance of growth and preservation, a dynamic evolution that’s testament to Main Beach’s resilience and its capacity to thrive amidst change.
We cannot change today, but we can together begin to reshape tomorrow. We can today begin influencing tomorrow step by step, action by action. As a Villager community, we are nimble and agile, the way we come together and shape changes begins by leading with action – anyone can create action and noise, but the right actions take discipline, creativity, and courage.
Qualities of Visionary Leadership in Main Beach:
Visionary leaders in our community should possess qualities such as foresight, adaptability, and a deep understanding of our unique village spirit. They must be able to embrace change while safeguarding the distinctive character that defines Main Beach. A visionary leader here should be a unifying force, connecting past intentions with present demands.
Moreover, they should be champions of action, not mere representation. They should bring innovative solutions and have a clear, actionable plan for navigating the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. It’s not just about promising; it’s about delivering on the aspirations of our community.
As we approach the 2024 council election, let’s seek candidates who embody these qualities and are committed to transparent, accountable governance. We deserve leaders who resonate with our community’s spirit and actively drive its progress, making Main Beach a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-looking place we are proud to call home.
Charting Main Beach’s Future: A Call for Engaged, Local Leadership
As we embrace the transformations at Main Beach, our attention must also pivot to the upcoming 2024 council election. The current situation, where our incumbent councilor runs unopposed and resides outside District 10, presents a concern. This geographical disconnect raises questions about their ability to fully understand and represent our unique community needs. Our councilor’s primary connection to Main Beach being the votes, rather than a shared daily experience, hints at a potential for unchallenged decisions and a lack of robust accountability. This election isn’t just a procedural formality; it’s a critical juncture for our community to actively shape its leadership.
Crucially, there is a gap in our local governance – a lack of clear, actionable objectives that truly reflect what we, the Villagers of Main Beach, want and need. Our voices and our visions for our community often seem lost in the broader narrative. This election presents a vital opportunity to bridge this gap. We must advocate for leadership that not only listens but also acts on the community’s collective aspirations.
It’s essential that our elected representatives not only understand our community’s needs but can also articulate a clear direction for Main Beach’s future. They should be able to outline tangible, achievable plans, demonstrating how they intend to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We need leaders who don’t just sit on the fence for the sake of votes but take a stand for the community’s well-being and growth.
The role of a councilor should transcend mere representation; it should embody proactive leadership that brings innovative solutions and ensures that the evolving needs of Main Beach are met. As we gear up for the election, let’s seek candidates who offer more than promises – those who present clear, actionable strategies that align with our community’s aspirations.
Our vote is our mandate. In 2024, let’s use it to elect not just a councilor, but a visionary leader. A leader who is committed to transparent, accountable governance and who has a solid plan for guiding Main Beach into its promising future. We deserve a council that not only resonates with our community’s spirit but actively drives its progress. Let’s make this election a turning point, a step towards a Main Beach that is as dynamic, inclusive, and forward-looking as the people who call it home.
In simple terms we all hold integrity as the highest of values in life, integrity is shaped through right actions, discipline, creativity, and courage – it is earned through stepping up taking a position, and then seeing it through, I think this is also the hallmark of great leaders and community.
Happy Village-ing
