Hey Main Beach Villagers

Let’s Make the Most of Our Community Grants!

What’s the Community Grant?

Our local Council offers financial support for events designed to strengthen our community. This is our chance to bring something special to Main Beach.

Who’s it For?

  • Local community organizations
  • Must have public liability insurance

Who It’s Not For

This grant program is specifically for the Council and councillors to fund community-led initiatives. It is not for personal projects, political gain, or other unclear agendas. This is an amazing concept if applied per its policy intentions—to build and support villagers with community spirit and initiative. Let’s keep it that way.

It’s All About Us

These grants are designed to benefit our local community, not individual agendas or political gains. They provide a powerful opportunity for villagers like us to develop and express the unique qualities of our people and village.

What Kind of Events?

  • Open to everyone in Main Beach
  • Must benefit the community, not just the organizers

How to Get Started?

Division Matters: Choose the right division for Main Beach when applying.
Timing is Key: For small events, apply at least a month in advance. For bigger ones (over $20K), give it a 3-month lead.

Do your Homework

The Council expects high-level corporate governance. Let’s make sure we’re above board and transparent. Check out the Policy Here

Don’t Wait: Funds may run out, so let’s get our ideas in ASAP.

After We Win?

  • Report Back: We need to inform the Council how the event went and where the funds were used by June 30th.

A Big Shoutout to the Gold Coast City Council

We want to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the Gold Coast City Council for setting up the Community Grants Program. Your commitment to empowering local communities like Main Beach is invaluable. Special thanks for supporting community members in developing grassroots events that benefit both Main Beach and Gold Coasters. These grants are a golden opportunity for us to come together, innovate, and create something wonderful. Let’s seize this opportunity!

The Villager edu series "So you want to be a councilor"

Hey there future councillors!

Are you ready to embark on a journey to greatness? Well, hold on to your hats because we’ve dug up some mandatory training stuff that you need to complete first! But don’t worry, I reckon that this will we’ll be fun and pretty darn easy – well as easy as possible.

Yes, even existing councillors who are running for re-election need to complete the “So you want to be a councillor” training. It’s in the law, people! So let’s get to it so you can become the best councillors you can be.

But first, let’s address the FAQs.

Can you avoid this training stuff? “No way ‘Jos’e” you cannot! But what if you’re a diva and only use Safari or Internet Explorer? Sorry, but this training only likes Google Chrome or Firefox. But don’t sweat it because these browsers are free to download!

We’ve also got first nations people, female leaders, agricultural backgrounds, and governance careers to give you a genuine insight into local government political life. Queensland is looking for candidates of all genders, ages, backgrounds, abilities, and experiences, so let’s make a difference together!

Let’s get out there and make our communities proud! Let’s put some good old-fashioned accountability back into the responsibility of sitting in the big chair. Integrity is real and it is relevant to the position if you are asking for the currency of votes then it is also an earned currency! I- Just saying!

And who said natural disasters can’t lead to love?

Rachel Chambers fell head over heels for the North Burnett community when disaster struck, proving that even a storm cloud can have a silver lining. She may have been a newbie to the region, but that didn’t stop her from putting her hand up to become mayor. Her determination to make a difference in a predominantly male political arena earned her the nickname “the annoying constituent,” and now she’s the unexpected mayor. Rachel’s story shows us that sometimes the best leaders are the ones who come out of nowhere, with a fresh perspective and a willingness to get their hands dirty. Here’s to hoping she can keep the community in good hands, or at least keep them laughing with her witty one-liners.
